In Figure 4.1, the pattern is manually laid on the mold (or a pattern is made and placed in the mold ahead of time). A concrete casting is achieved by pouring the concrete into the cavity formed by the mold and the pattern. The casting operation must be conducted quickly and precisely to avoid mold damage, as minor jarring of the mold can cause the concrete to crack.
The album's production featured a wide array of producers, including Israel Castro, The Inkwells' Kenn Starr, Phil McIntyre, Lou P, Doap Nixon and Brian Kennedy, and was executive produced by both Mast and Rollins. Mast's friend and collaborator, The Inkwells' lead singer, Israel Castro, was brought on as executive producer to oversee the production of the album's musical side. Mast received a major recommendation from Castro, who knew Mast's emceeing skills from a performance they did at the same fest the previous year. Castro suggested Mast for the album, as he felt Mast could complete the project with a finished product.
In early 2011, Mast began writing lyrics for his forthcoming album. Mast wrote songs from a narrative perspective, describing the internal struggles of an emcee. Mast stated that he wrote his melodies on the piano and recorded his vocals in the studio, feeling that this was a unique way of recording, writing, and producing his songs. Mast said that he did not have any particular lyrical subject matter in mind, but that he was inspired to write about the parallels between the emcee lifestyle and his own personal life, feeling that the entire project was a reaction to his life at that time.
On February 10, 2011, the duo released a mixtape titled, The Autobiography, which is a collection of tracks from their mixtape series. It was titled after the project they had initially planned for their own solo albums.
