Hi, I'm Nzinga the founder of Brooklyn Brewed Sorrel. I've lived a sober and happy life for decades, always felt we deserved more out of our drinks selection and knew that my vibrant Caribbean culture had the answer. As a 1st generation Caribbean American woman, Fashion designer and foodie born in East Flatbush, Brooklyn my unique background has given me an appreciation for festivity, style and sobriety. I love a vibrant good time and Sorrel is a complex, delicious and festive drink with an over 400-year heritage that my Trini father 1st created for our family. In 2015 with the intuition to \"bloom where I was planted\" I began creating the sorrel I grew up with for all to enjoy. We've been featured in Vogue, Epicurious, Beyonce's website and are enjoyed by tastemakers like you allover the USA.... Order here
Brooklyn Brewed Sorrel is enjoyed by fans all over the country from the foodie, to the actively sober and sober-curious. It's perfectly complex, well-balanced and smooth. Great for dinner-parties, gifting or just relaxing at home.
Take good heed also that every form of hypocrisy be purged out, for the apostle tells us to eat the passover with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. Do let us leave off talking beyond our experience, let us never pray beyond what we mean. Ask God, my brother, to clean us from all unreality, that nothing may be in us but true metal. There is a strong temptation among Christian ministers, and Christian men of all sorts, to seem to be a little more than they are. God save us from it. The slightest taint of hypocrisy should be abhorred by the Christian man. All ill-will and all mere seeming should be detestable to the Christian, for where these are there can be little or no communion with Jesus. The fellowship of heaven is not enjoyed where the leaven of hell is endured.
So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.
At the same time, Judaism recognizes critical dangers of over-consumption. One of the most iconic images of prayer in the Hebrew is that of the childless Hannah, pouring her heart out to God as she furiously, restlessly begs for the ability to conceive. Her prayer is so passionate that a priest mistakes her for drunk. She earnestly insists that she is sober.
What is more, Hannah promises God that if she is able to have a child she will dedicate that baby as a Nazarite. Nazarites were a class of Israelites who took upon themselves extra stringent obligations toward God, including abstaining from alcohol. Remaining sober in this way was considered one path to holiness. And, indeed, there is an ascetic strain in Jewish tradition that shuns alcohol.
