I am trying to install windows 7 on a dell optiplex 7040 sff. The desktop is brand new. I have windows 10 running perfectly fine, but due to software restrictions, I need to use Win7 instead. I want to do a clean install and I use an flash drive with win7 on it.
I had a similar scenario with the Dell Optiplex 7040 with Windows 10. We recently ordered a few Windows 7 optiplex 7040 machines, so all I did was make a Image of the windows 7 machine, and installed it on the windows 10, and then was able to set up the raid with Intel rapid. I am still looking for a solution just to load the raid drivers.

There have been many different recovery solutions bought to market over the years but the main issue with using a standard recovery disk, is that the operating itself can be very old with unusable drivers. Something like Windows XP was originally released in 2001, so all the associated drivers and files for that system would be very close to 25 years old. To enhance this old type of OEM recovery disk we supply you with a genuine operating system recovery Disk, driver recovery disk and a system that will scan and update your drivers live. This ensures you have the most up-to-date operating system and drivers available. Make sure that you have a valid product key, (found on the OptiPlex 7040 COA), as it is required to use this operating system recovery service.
After installing a new Windows operating system, some devices like the video, sound or maybe the wireless network will not work correctly. This is because the OptiPlex 7040 Windows operating system will set the computer up with with generic drivers that are designed only to operate at a very basic level. Some form of device driver is required for the hardware to operate in any way. Windows default drivers are designed so that the basic start-up requirements are met, such as being able to see some sort of display. Many driver diskss or resource diskss, as they are sometimes called, are normally just full of compressed, out of date and hard to install driver files. This driver disks will supply you with all the very latest OptiPlex 7040 drivers as the driver disks update system will then also go on-line, update, replace and remove any old or broken device drivers. As a free extra bonus you can use this disk up to 3 times on 3 different computers. The OptiPlex 7040 driver disk / ISO is supplied with the recovery software media and is not available as a stand alone item.
After encountering issues using our standard methods, we tried creating multiple bootable USBs, spent hours troubleshooting, and finally uncovered that the new Optiplex 7040s have Skylake chipsets. The Skylake processor is a follow-up to the Broadwell and provides increased CPU and GPU performance while reducing power consumption. Two great features. However, the new processor also means that certain drivers and hotfixes have to be installed into the ISO for Windows 7 before it can be deployed.
You need to get the driver pack for the chipset from dell directly. In my case it took only this USB3 driver =CWGRX&fileId=3588430725&osCode=W764&productCode=optiplex-7040-desktop&languageCode=en&categoryId=CS found at this very simple 10-page explanation that has a wrong step and oh by the way I literally wasted an entire day trying to make it work even when i got all the steps right. Various failures including crashes. Very bad. -us/000179740/how-to-install-windows-7-on-optiplex-7040-and-other-skylake-systems-using-mdt-2013-update-1
Cautionary note: I tried to dism install all the drivers from the other two driver links on the dell explanation page and the windows installation errored out pretty hard. So maybe just brooming them all into the boot.wim was a bad idea.
This is supper. I did not know that Bluetooth can be enabled or disabled from Bios setup utility. I found the check box for Bluetooth unchecked. I ticked it and immediately the computer restarted, dell support assistant suggested driver update which I did and my Bluetooth worked immediately. Prior to this I had tried windows as well as dell troubleshooter which both showed I was running the lates drivers. Windows showed that Bluetooth is not available on this device while dell said the machine is out of warranty hence they cannot assist. Thanks man. 1e1e36bf2d
