This article aims to give an overall description of various strategies on time trials of software. Its findings are mostly applicable for Mac OS X (Snow Leopard), but some findings are general for other Unices and unix-like systems (Linux). A basic knowledge of Mac (or some other unix or unix-like) system is required.

Mirekusoft Install Monitor is one install monitor that you can use to perform this function. Using a third-party uninstaller such as Revo Uninstaller or IObit Uninstaller removes every file from everywhere. If the trial program leaves a certificate file or other resource to prevent reinstallation, these apps should find and delete it.

The Windows registry is an enormous database of stored values describing just about every aspect of every piece of software and hardware on your machine. Many programs will leave traces of themselves in the registry, even if you use the included uninstaller. Even a file uninstaller might not get every registry entry, particularly if the setup and uninstall programs were designed to leave a registry entry hidden somewhere to prevent double-runs of the trial software.

However, this is relatively easy to defeat. All you have to do is take a snapshot of your Windows Registry before you install the trial for the first time. Then install and use the trial, and when the time period runs out, uninstall it, then restore the Registry to the saved values it had before the trial. However, note that this has the potential of getting your PC into a confused state, as any other changes that other programs have logged to the Registry in the meantime will also be lost.

My final tip for reinstalling trial software after the free trial has ended is to use a virtual machine. These are useful in many different situations, but when it comes to trialing new applications they really shine. Not only do they prevent the software from messing with your main operating system, they also prevent any security issues and can be quickly deleted and reinstalled to keep any trial running for as long as you need it to.

I work at a company with 50+ Avid licenses. We had some activation/deactivation issues this spring, but that's fixed now. But every now and then, Media Composer on one of the computers will start the "your trial has expired" window, even though it already has an activated license. Clicking Open on Media Composer only goes back to the activate dialogue(you know the one with the four options: activate using Avid Link, usb dongle, start/continue trial and media composer first).

Today when faced with this I tried the licensing reset so to speak, by closing Avid Link, appman helper and deleting folders in ProgramData. It didn't work in making Avid realize it had a license(after clicking Use License, it still went to the activate dialogue) but it did reset the 30-day trial... so that editor is now using a trial, even though he has a license that we've paid for.

Any ideas as to why this happens? And what should I have done differently? Sometimes Avid will do a similar thing and "drop" the license, but then just entering it again works fine. But this trial vs license issue is harder to get around, as you can see.

I haven't tried to deactivate because when I tried clearing the Link cache etc I accidentally reset the trial period to 30 days and because we can't afford to lose a day of work time, I started the trial instead of trying to deactivate(because if reactivating didn't work I would have to contact Avid about doing it, and understandably that can take a little while, and especially after we had 3 days of internet outage, we didn't have any time to burn.)

If you delete the content of the SWL and Licenses folder in programdata, you reset mediacomposer to the way it was before any activation was done. Trying to activate again will fail as Avid will believe you try to activate the same license on 2 machines at the same time. Thus, you rearm your Office copy and extend the free trial to 30 days. You can run this command up to three (3) times before the trial expires. Thus, you can extend the total time of using the Office 2019/2016/365 trial version up to 120 days (4 * 30 days). If a corporate edition of Office 2019 is installed on the computer, for example, Office 19, Office19ProjectPro2019VL_KMS_Client_AE editionthen its description should look like Office 19, VOLUME_KMSCLIENT channel or Office 19, VOLUME_KMSCLIENT channel. The remaining trial period is 30 days, you can renew the license up to 3 times (Remaining App rearm count: 3).

Each time the license is extended via ospprearm.exe, the counter is decremented by 1. If the remaining number of rearms for the Office trial license is 0, you will receive error 0xc004d307 when running OSPPREARM.EXE.

This app is a cloud-based service that doesn't require special software other than an up-to-date web browser, though some restrictions apply. For the best trial experience, avoid accessing the trial site in incognito mode. Learn more about web application requirements.

When you sign up for the trial, you'll receive an email with the trial details. If you don't see the email in your inbox, check your spam folder. Alternatively, use the following steps to access your app:

To add users, go to the Microsoft 365 admin center using the trial admin account. Follow the admin center guidance to add users up to the trial license limit. If you have signed up for the trial using a managed Azure Active Directory account, you can request your Power Platform admin to delete the trial environment. If you have signed up using your personal account, you cannot cancel the trial manually. The trial will expire after the 30-day trial period and the trial environment will be automatically deleted.
